I think I was doing my best imitation of an ostrich- I had sort of continued along the path of having a vbac because I had no reason not to but to be honest my head was in the sand and I think I was secretly just hoping for another c-section as it seemed the simplest option. Without any agenda Martha allowed me to access a whole range of info that helped me to actually think about what I was about to do and why I wanted to. It was the reality check I needed and helped me think about what I wanted my own birth story to be.
I ended up having a very fast and intense labour but all the way through I was aware of the stages and what was happening to me which meant I felt some control rather than letting it get the better of me. It was empowering. It also made me think about the role of my partner in it all and how we could prepare together so that he could be helpful.
The course was easy to access and I could access bits as I liked and revisit as I needed in my own time. I had a 1 year old at the time and interruptions were frequent. I was able to show bits of interest to my husband. Nothing has made me feel more proud or empowered in my life than giving birth to our second son. Yes, I loved my first birth, but I am so thankful for having a successful vbac and you helped me want and achieve it.”-Sally
I was excited to be a new father, but I had no experience with birth, babies, or even small children before it was our turn to step up to the plate. Martha was an excellent educator in this regard.
The online course gave me the knowledge essential to understand what was going on during pregnancy and birth. I wanted to have a role in the birth, but I didn’t know where to start. We ended up going the natural birth route. Martha’s course gave us the tools we needed to succeed.
Before getting pregnant, I did not know a whole lot about childbirth. It can be frightening to know that you will have to go through something when you know very little about it. Being pregnant during COVID meant that normal birth classes were canceled, and I had a minimum number of doctor’s appointments that I attended alone.
Martha’s birth course provided me with knowledge of what possibilities might occur, and empowered me by telling me what my options were so I could make informed choices. I appreciated that my husband and I could watch together and talk about what we learned.
The course helped me understand what was going to happen in my body and gave me tools to prepare for labor. I appreciated having a sample birth plan, and my preferences helped me choose a provider who supported those choices.
The course is very user-friendly. It was a great option for us to be able to watch the videos at our leisure, and pause or replay sections so my husband and I could discuss our options and preferences. I recommended the course to a pregnant friend who also benefited from it.
